Who can receive In-Home Veterans Care Services?

Home Health Services and Hospice Care
The VA provides supportive medical services to help chronically ill or disabled eligible Veterans of any age remain in their homes. These home health care services and extended care services – must be prescribed by a VA physician.

Veterans Aid and Attendance: A veteran eligible to use their VA Aid and Attendance benefits for home care must require assistance to perform daily activities like bathing, feeding, and dressing.

Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care
Geriatrics and extended care for veterans are available through the Homemaker and Home Health Aide program. This program is for Veterans who need personal care services and help with activities of daily living. It can help Veterans remain living in their own home and can serve Veterans of any age.  This program is also for Veterans who are isolated, or whose caregiver is experiencing a burden.

A Homemaker and Home Health Aide is a trained person who can come to a Veteran’s home and help the Veteran take care of themselves and their daily activities. The services of a Homemaker and Home Health Aide can help Veterans remain living in their own home and can serve Veterans of any age. Homemakers and Home Health Aides are not nurses, but they are supervised by a registered nurse who will help assess the Veteran’s daily living needs.
